Our band and songsters (choir), as well as various vocal and instrumental soloists, provide music for worship each Sunday. They also participate in regular concerts.
The Yorkminster Citadel Band (Bandmaster Greg Colley)
The Yorkminster Citadel Senior Band provides music for worship and outreach ministry, and takes part in regular praise services. The band participates in concerts at Thanksgiving, Christmas, and at other times of the year. Its playing is enjoyed outside of Yorkminster at community events and churches. At Christmas the carol playing of musicians from Yorkminster Citadel Band delights the shoppers at Yorkdale Mall.
Songsters (Songster Leader Donna Colley)
In addition to their weekly contribution to worship services the Songsters are an integral part of the ministry. They bring musical blessings to the Toronto Grace Hospital and the Meighen Retirement Residence each month, and over the Christmas season they sing at the Yorkminster Community Christmas Concert and to shoppers and employees in Yorkdale Mall at The Salvation Army’s Christmas Kettles.
Yorkminster’s Beginners and Young People’s Band provide opportunities to share in fellowship and learn Christian values while developing musical skills in a traditional brass band setting.
Participants start in the Beginners program, learning fundamental skills, before progressing to the Y.P. (Young People’s) Band. We present musical selections to the congregation every or three months during Sunday worship.
Age of band members: 6 – 15 years.
Both programs run Tuesday evening from 6:30 to 7:30.
Yorkminster singing company is a group of young singers who meet once a week to develop their voices and learn about God’s word through song. We share our message in song with the congregation during the Sunday worship service every two or three months.
Every Christmas we present a Christmas pageant — a musical with acting, dancing and singing, telling the story of Jesus’ birth.
Singing Company members are aged from 4 to 15 years. They meet on Sundays from 12:15-12:45 p.m., with extra rehearsals in November and December to prepare for the Christmas Pageant.
